Five 1st Infantry Division Soldiers killed, 20 others wounded in attack

/noticias.info/ TIKRIT, Iraq – Five 1st Infantry Division Soldiers and two Iraqi National Guard Soldiers were killed, and 20 1st ID Soldiers and four ING Soldiers were wounded when anti-Iraqi forces attacked the Iraqi National Guard Headquarters in Samarra on July 8 at about 10:30 a.m.

1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment radar acquired a point of origin for the attack and fired counter mortars in response.

1st Infantry Division Soldiers and Iraqi Security Forces conducted patrols to secure the city of Samarra from further attacks by anti-Iraqi forces.

Close-air support engaged and killed four AIF insurgents and destroyed the house.

The wounded Soldiers were evacuated to a Multi-National Force medical facility for treatment.

The names of the deceased Soldiers are being withheld pending notification of the next-of-kin.
