STOCKHOLM OPEN: Agassi Storms Through
Andre Agassi scored a comfortable win against Kristof Vliegen on Wednesday night.
/noticias.info/ The American super star was given a huge support by the crowd in Stockholm. The people were very happy to have the eight-time Grand Slam champion back for the first time since 1994.
- To get the feeling of support is an incredible feeling. It’s one of the things that make me keep on going, the happy 34-year old said at the press conference.
Agassi was never in any real trouble against the young Belgian. After breaking the young Belgian early on, Agassi cruised through the first set. Vliegen raised his game as the match went on, but still couldn’t hinder the American from winning 6-2, 6-4.
- This was a nice way to get started. The conditions were very different than last week so I knew there were some adjustments that needed to be made.
In the next round, Agassi will play Jonas Björkman. Agassi is up 3-0 in the head-to-head statistics, but Björkman had his chances in two of the matches. At the Olympics 1996, Björkman was a break up both in the first and second set, but lost to the eventual champion. In the round of last 16 at the Australian Open 1996, Björkman was up 2-1 and lost in five sets.
- Jonas does many things well on the court, he’s good in a lot of areas. I’ll have to play well, Agassi says.
The American has a lot of nice things to say about being back in Stockholm.
- Stockholm is literally one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The arena is great, it’s so intimate, you feel that it is special to be here, Agassi exclaims.
