The 19-year old Sweden, who received a Wild Card, didn’t seemed bothered by the occasion. Lopez had two break points at 2-3 in the first set, but Ryderstedt kept his composure and hit some big serves to stay on par with the Spaniard. With Lopez serving at 4-4, Ryderstedt played unbelievable tennis dictating the play to go up a break. When a lot of players would get tense serving for the set, Ryderstedt continued to hit through the ball and grabbed the first set.
In the second set, Ryderstedt and Lopez broke each other twice to take it into a tiebreak. There, the Spaniard showed why he is a top 30 ranked player.
Ryderstedt continued to fight hard and got an early break in the third set. At 3-1, Lopez had a couple of break points in a marathon game that finally was won by the Swede. From there on, the 19-year old was able to stay focused and hold on to a 6-3 win.
- I am shocked, surprised and happy. To be able to follow up one of the wins of my career yesterday and play the match of my life today is fantastic, Ryderstedt said after the match.
A lot of people were impressed by the brave play that Ryderstedt displayed, despite playing the biggest match of his life.
- I am usually more nervous but today I was just thinking about the next point. I tried to hit through my shots all the time, the happy Swede says.
