STOCKHOLM OPEN: ”Pim-Pim” Ousts Gambill
/noticias.info/ The No. 2 seed and home town favorite Joachim Johansson had no trouble overcoming Jan-Michael Gambill in the second round.
Pim-Pim was in control of the match and did just enough to beat Gambill in straight sets, breaking the American once in each set.
- I had a lot of opportunities to break his serve but it took a while until I converted them. If I want to advance further, I need to be focused all the time, the 22-year old said at the post match press conference.
In Friday’s quarterfinal, Johansson is up against countryman Michael Ryderstedt. The 19-year old was the sensational man of the day on Thursday, when he defeated Felicano Lopez in three sets.
- I have noticed that he (Ryderstedt) has improved a lot. He has a different kind of game and has an advantage of being left-handed. I am not surprised that he has reached the quarterfinal here, he has a big game, Johansson says.
The two have squared off against each other one time before. In a futures tournament in Finland two years ago, Pim-Pim won 7-5, 6-3 in the second round.
