BASEBALL WORLD SERIES: First 2004 World Series game in St. Louis dominates network TV competition
Game averaged 24.4 million viewers; Most viewed Game 3 since 1995

Last night's telecast delivered the best numbers for a World Series Game 3 in average viewers (24.4 million) since the Cleveland Indians - Atlanta Braves Game 3 match up in 1995 (NBC 28.7 million viewers). Last night's game also delivered the best Game 3 rating since the 1999 World Series between the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees (NBC 16.8/27) and gave FOX its best World Series Game 3 telecast ever.
Thus far, the three game average for the World Series is a 15.0/25, a 26% lift over the 11.9/21 averaged for the first three games last year. Compared to recent World Series Game 3 telecasts, last night's game was up +26 vs. 2003 (12.5), +45% vs. 2002 (10.8), +2% vs. 2001 (15.4) and +27% vs. 2000 (12.4). The 15.0 HH rating matches the average HH rating for primetime coverage of the Athens Olympics on NBC.
In Boston, the game averaged a 54.3/71 rating/share for the night, peaking at 58.5/74 in the 10:00 - 10:15 p.m. quarter hour. St. Louis delivered a 45.5/59 overall rating/share and peaked at 48.2/61 from 9:30-9:45 p.m. In other markets, the game delivered an 18.6/31 in Seattle, a 17.6/25 in Washington, D.C., a 16.1/24 in Chicago and a 15.7/26 in San Diego.
FOX had the highest rated programming in primetime last night, outdistancing second-place CBS in HH rating (8.3/13) by 89%. Other network deliveries for the evening included a 6.4/10 for NBC and a 6.0/9 for ABC.
The game averaged an 8.2 among Adults 18-49, surpassing the second place network in that demo by 110% (NBC - 3.9) and exceeding the combined Adults 18-49 rating for ABC and NBC by 6% (7.7). Thus far, the 2004 World Series is averaging an 8.3 rating in Adults 18-49 which ranks fourth among all primetime shows and ahead of the season-to-date averages for CSI:Miami (7.8), Apprentice 2 (7.7), Survivor: Vanuatu (7.3), CSI:NY (6.8) and Monday Night Football (6.8). Game 3 averaged a 7.2 rating among Men 18-34, topping the combined delivery by ABC, NBC and CBS (7.1) in that demo.
FOX has won the night in primetime for each 2004 World Series telecast, while MLB postseason coverage has helped the network to a total of 11 primetime victories since October 5.
