U.S./PAKISTAN, AFGHAN FORCES CONDUCT A HISTORIC COMBINED OPERATION

/noticias.info/ KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan, Pakistan and U.S. soldiers joined efforts to defend the Afghanistan town of Shkin when it came under rocket attack Nov. 3. Soldiers from these three nations conducted a coordinated attack against militant forces in the border region between Shkin, Afghanistan, and Wana, Pakistan.

Shkin came under fire from anti-coalition forces operating near the Afghan/Pakistan border region late Wednesday night. Having a better view of the target area from their border checkpoint in Pakistan, Pakistani soldiers adjusted U.S. artillery counter battery fire for the Afghan and U.S. forces on the Afghan side of the border. This was done using U.S. PRC-77 radios that were transferred to the Pakistanis just two days prior.

Concurrently, the U.S. military liaison in Pakistan coordinated with the Pakistan military higher command to monitor the event and direct their forces.

No battle damage assessments are available at this time; however, this operation demonstrates the commitment of Pakistan to fighting terrorism, as well as the strong ties that have been built between neighboring countries in the region.

“The Pakistanis have been doing an excellent job eliminating terrorist and militants from their soil, yet this level of cooperation along the border is exactly what is needed and what all three countries have been striving for,” stated an official from the Office of the Defense Representative, Pakistan. “Together we will capture, kill or drive out terrorists so that people in this region can live in peace. In doing so, we are sending a poignant message to the terrorists that we will capture or kill them wherever they are.”
