Arizonans Support Water Conservation Measures
/noticias.info/ (Angus Reid - CPOD Global Scan) – Many adults in Arizona would endorse tighter regulations for water use in the event of an emergency, according to a poll by Market Solutions Group published in The Arizona Republic. 57 per cent of respondents support allowing governor Janet Napolitano to impose conservation measures if a serious need arises.
Some urban areas in Arizona have imposed limits on water use during the current nine-year drought, while other local governments have urged residents to conserve on a voluntary basis. In November 2003, Napolitano ordered a five per cent reduction in water consumption for state agencies and universities. The governor could impose statewide restrictions if a formal emergency is declared.
In her speech to the Arizona State Legislature on Jan. 10, Napolitano vowed to "propose legislation that will let the state do a far better job monitoring water conditions" and to "urge every community, no matter what size, to adopt a long-term water conservation plan."
