Only 'one in 400 chance' of Boscastle repeat
/noticias.info/ Residents of Boscastle are safe to re-build their homes, a new Environment Agency report has announced.
A flash flood devastated the Cornwall holiday resort last August.
Residents had feared they would be told that they could not repair or reconstruct buildings in the affected areas.
But the agency has advised the local planning authority that 'in most cases replacing of damaged buildings should not be prevented on flood risk grounds.'
There was only a 'one in 400 chance' of the same exceptional type of flooding happening again in any given year.
The report adds that if any proposals were to come forward that would increase the flood risk, they would be strongly opposed.
