IRAQ: 201st Iraqi Army Traffic Control Point Detains Four

/noticias.info/ Tikrit, Iraq -- A traffic control point established by the 201st Iraqi Army Battalion along with Soldiers of Task Force 1-18 Infantry captured four insurgents passing through the city of Tikrit from Fallujah on Jan. 8.

The traffic control point was established based on intelligence collected by the 201st Iraqi Army Intelligence section, which received information from sources that the four targets would be moving through the Tikrit area.

Members of the 201st Iraqi Army, on patrol with Soldiers of Charlie Company, Task Force 1-18, responded to the intelligence and established a hasty traffic control point.

As vehicles were being checked, 201st Iraqi Army Soldiers identified the targets, and the four insurgents were detained without incident.

Upon further investigation of the vehicle the insurgents were using, Multi-National Forces discovered a rocket-propelled grenade warhead and improvised explosive device-making material. The four insurgents were taken to FOB Spartan and turned over to Task Force 1-18, processed and delivered to the brigade detention facility.

The rapid and professional reaction of the 201st Iraqi Army to detain the four insurgents was no surprise to 1st Lt. Jason Gallagher of Orlando, Fla.

“The proficiency of the 201st Iraqi Army Battalion has improved immeasurably in the time I have been here,” he said. “Their desire to learn will ensure their continued success.” (Story by Capt. Michael Prudhomme, Task Force 1-18 Infantry)
