Bush Approval At 51% On Inauguration Day

/noticias.info/ (Angus Reid - CPOD Global Scan) – George W. Bush begins his second term in office with steady numbers, according to a poll by Gallup released by CNN and USA Today. 51 per cent of respondents in the United States approve of the president’s performance.

The average approval rating for Bush during his first term ranks as the fourth highest for an American head of state in a Gallup poll since 1945, at 62.1 per cent. Only Lyndon Johnson, John F. Kennedy and Dwight Eisenhower posted higher numbers than Bush, although Johnson and Kennedy did not serve full four-year terms.

The current president’s numbers increased dramatically in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, to a high of 90 per cent. Bush’s lowest rating in a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll was 46 per cent, after the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal in May 2004.
