PALESTINE: Sharon Vows to Keep Jerusalem Undivided Capital of Israel, Peres Calls to Drive

PALESTINE, June 6,2005 (IPC+Agencies)- Israeli Prime Minister Arial Sharon pledged that the Jerusalem will remain undivided and would be in the Jewish hand for eternity
"Jerusalem is ours for eternity and will never pass into foreign hands," Sharon said on marking the 38th anniversary of Israel's capture of the entire holy.



Sharon said a ceremony on Ammunition Hill, marking the so- called "Jerusalem Day" , the memorial of occupying east Jerusalem in 1967

On his part, the Israeli president Moshe KAtasav said the ceremony that israeli will never allow anybody whoever to harm the Islamic sites " Israel will respect and keep the freedom of worshiping for all religions but it will not allowed the son's of other religions to break the worship freedom of the Jews. " Katzav said.

He also added "the tie between the Jewish people and the temple mount would be eternal."

Prior the ceremony on the mark of the occupation of Jerusalem, a special plenary meeting was held by the Israeli cabinet over Jerusalem.

The Israeli government had decided to the developing plan in Jerusalem, allocating a budget to encourage the Jews to move to live in Jerusalem.

Opposition head Yosef Lapid (Shinui) proposed on Monday appointing a Palestinian deputy-mayor to be in charge of Palestinian populated areas in the city, saying it would reduce tensions between Jerusalem's Palestinian population and municipal authorities.

Lapid said that "more than a third of Jerusalem's population is Palestinian", calling for finding ways to allow all to live together peacefully.

Jerusalem municipality has recently issued orders to demolish 88 homes belonging to Palestinian residents of Silwan neighborhood.

Palestinians consider East Jerusalem an occupied Palestinian territory, demanding that the city be the capital of the future Palestinian state.

on the other hand, Shimon Peres, the deputy of Israeli prime minister called for an exodus to the Palestinian population in occupied Jerusalem, which estimated about 240,000, under a pretext to secure keeping Jerusalem as undivided capital of Israel.

Peres, the leader of the Labor party said in the Cabinet meeting that it is misperception to believe that it is possible to keep Jerusalem as a capital for the Jewish people at a time 240,000 Palestinians live in it. notas_de_prensa_archivo
