LIVERPOOL FC: GERRARD RELIEVED TO BE BACK PLAYING AGAIN
/noticias.info/ Steven Gerrard insists it is a relief to be back playing football again after the turbulent off-field events of the past week.
Gerrard played the first half of Liverpool's opening pre-season clash against Wrexham on Saturday, 24 hours after pledging his future to the club by signing a new contract that ties him to Anfield until 2009.
The skipper was given a fantastic reception by the travelling fans in North Wales and he responded with a typical all-action performance.
"It was great to get a good reaction from the fans and I'm happy about that," he said afterwards. "It's been a very stressful week. I've been confused and I've been depressed. But I've had a couple of days training now and things are blowing over.
"I don't think you need me to tell you how hard it has been. You have seen what has been said in the papers, all the contract situation and that. It hasn't been good.
"I enjoy playing football. I don't enjoy the other stuff and I just want the fans to forget it as quickly as possible. I know they have been through a lot as well which I am not proud of. I think a couple of months down the line when games are coming thick and fast then this will all be forgotten about. That's what I'm hoping for."
Alongside Jamie Carragher, Gerrard proudly paraded the Champions League trophy prior to the Reds 4-3 victory over their League Two hosts and he added that he's looking forward to another successful season.
"I was very proud to lift the European Cup for this club. The boys are still buzzing from it and hopefully we can take that confidence into the new season. It was great to be playing again and show the trophy off to the fans today.
"Now I am desperate to try and find my top form and try and deliver a trophy for them. The manager has made some good signings and I'm sure there'll be more. If we can get that bit of luck with injuries, then I don't see any reason why we shouldn't enjoy a better season in the league." notas_de_prensa_archivo
