EVERTON: BEATTIE: I WANT 9
/noticias.info/ James Beattie has set his sights on being the next owner of the prestigious number nine shirt of Everton.
The Blues striker was handed eight when he became the Blues' record signing in January but since then he has always harboured ambitions of wearing the famous jersey.
Goodison greats such as Dixie Dean, Joe Royle, Bob Latchford, Graeme Sharp and Duncan Ferguson have all had the honour of wearing the shirt in the past and Beattie is ready to take up the responsibility.
He told evertonfc.com from the Blues' Austrian training camp: "I do fancy it. There was talk of it when I signed for the club earlier on in the year.
"I would be privileged to wear it especially with the rich history that goes with it.
"I do know quite a bit about the history because we went through it when I was signing.
"Obviously great players have worn it and I want to add my name to that list."
Beattie seems to be fully aware what the number nine means to Evertonians and insists that if boss David Moyes was to give him the shirt then he would live up to expectations.
He added: "It would give me a boost. I was nine at Southampton for four years and scoring goals quite regularly.
"Hopefully I can put the Blue number nine on and do it justice - no, I will do if I get it." notas_de_prensa_archivo
