MALAYSIA AIRLINES :TEMPTATIONS GLOBAL MULTI-CULTURAL THEMES ADD EXCITEMENT TO INFLIGHT SHOPPING
/noticias.info/ Kuala Lumpur, 26 July 2005: Temptations, Malaysia Airlines’ inflight shopping brand has infused innovative and vibrant thematic approaches in its lifestyle magazine type catalogue this year. The themes are Asian which was in the January to March 2005 issue, African in the April to June 2005 and Middle Eastern for the current quarter.
Speaking to reporters at a special briefing, Assistant General Manager Marketing Support, YM Raja Nordiana Zainal Shah said, “These themes further mirror the vast network the national carrier has and is meant to appeal to the broad spectrum of customers who fly with Malaysia Airlines.
“In order to do this, we have taken a great deal of effort and time to analyse what our customers around the globe want by understanding their behavioural, cultural and spending patterns when they fly with Malaysia Airlines.
We have successfully catered to the demands of a global audience who are able to buy that special, yet unique and different item by also creating a special section that reflects the Temptations brand name,” she explained further.
Temptations recorded a spectacular 39% increase in revenue with a corresponding increase of 38% in profit for the financial year ended 31 March 2005. Lifestyle products led the pack with apparel growing at 240%, fashion accessories at 195% and leather goods at 127% over the previous year’s. In Temptations, there are 16 product categories of which 13, showed double-digit growth in sales over the previous year.
With prices five to ten percent lower than on-the-ground retail outlets, fragrances contributed the largest share of revenue. Cosmetics were not far behind with sales growth at 65% over the previous year.
To further excite passengers and in appreciation of their wonderful support, the first World of Temptations contest was held in the first quarter. Passengers on board Malaysia Airlines flights were entitled to submit an entry form to describe their greatest temptations and why.
More than 1,000 entries were received, of which 500 were short-listed. A five-member panel of judges unanimously selected the entry form submitted by Professor Dr. Maya Khemlani David of University Malaya. YM Raja Nordiana presented Professor Dr. David with the grand prize of a Golden Holidays package for two people to Cape Town, South Africa. Five other consolation winners from the United Kingdom, India and Malaysia were also announced.
