Tiger Woods Gets Sneak Preview of Newly Lengthened Augusta National
/noticias.info/ By Mark Soltau
With the Masters less than a month away, defending champion Tiger Woods got a sneak preview of newly-lengthened Augusta National on Sunday. Accompanied by financial advisor Christopher Hubman, Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz and an unidentified member, the foursome played the course Sunday morning, with Woods shooting a 2-under-par 70. Afterward, they played the Par-3 Course.
"It definitely played longer," said Woods. "It will be a big challenge if the golf course plays fast."
Woods said he came up short with a 3-iron from the new tee at the par-3 fourth hole. He hit his best drive of the day at the par-5 15th and reached the green in two with a 5-iron.
According to Woods, the greens were running about 11 on the Stimpmeter.
"But they'll probably be closer to 12 or 13 for the tournament," he said.
Woods, a four-time winner of the Masters, is off to a great start in 2006. He has already won three tournaments, including the Buick Invitational, Dubai Desert Classic and Ford Championship at Doral. Woods seeks his fourth victory of the year this week at the Bay Hill Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
In other news, a “60 Minutes” program on CBS showcasing the new Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim, Ca. is now scheduled to air on March 26. notas_de_prensa_archivo
