Braves kick off year-long 40th Anniversary celebration

OPENING NIGHT AT TURNER FIELD - The Braves get their 2006 home schedule underway with an exciting night at Turner Field. Fans will be treated to pre-game festivities including Atlanta-native Edwin McCain performing the National Anthem, a fly-over of four F-18 Hornets, a 40th Anniversary video and a flag presentation. Opening night on-field ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m., with gates opening at 4:35 p.m.

40th Anniversary Collectible Pin #1 presented by Home Depot - The first 20,000 fans will receive a 40th Anniversary Collectible Pin, the first in a series of 6 collectible pins, celebrating the Braves 40 years in Atlanta.

Turner South my south LIVE, presented by FOX - The popular Southern Rock/Country act, the "Zac Brown Band" will perform live in Fan Plaza.

1966 ATLANTA BRAVES REUNION - Members of the 1966 Atlanta Braves team will reunite at Turner Field to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Braves game in Atlanta, when the club hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 12, 1966. The alumni players will participate in pre-game autograph and Q & A sessions in Fan Plaza, and the Braves will pay tribute to the inaugural 1966 club in a pre-game on-field ceremony to kick off a year-long 40th anniversary celebration. The honorary first pitch will be thrown by Bill Bartholomay, the Braves Chairman Emeritus and former owner who was instrumental in bringing the Braves south from Milwaukee. The 2006 Braves will don replica 1966 uniforms, which will be given away immediately following the game as part of the "Jerseys Off Our Backs" raffle, benefiting the Atlanta Braves Foundation. Raffle tickets will be available in one-, two- and five-ticket packages throughout the ballpark during the first four innings. The Braves are also offering throwback ticket prices, with Upper Reserved and Upper Pavilion seats available for just $2.

LEAD OFF LUNCHEON PRESENTED BY THE ATLANTA SPORTS COUNCIL - Dine with current and former Braves players at the second annual Lead Off Luncheon. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Turner Field's 755 Club, the luncheon will feature a silent auction benefiting the Atlanta Braves Foundation, player interviews, interactive Q&A sessions and a tribute to the 1966 Braves team.

ATLANTA BRAVES BASEBALL ACADEMY GRAND OPENING - The Atlanta Braves and the Villages at Carver Family YMCA will celebrate the Grand Opening of the Atlanta Braves Baseball Academy, bringing an eight-acre signature youth sports complex to the heart of the redeveloped Carver community near Turner Field. Funded by Chipper Jones, Brian Jordan, Mike Hampton and John Smoltz, each of whom contributed $75,000, the MLB Baseball Tomorrow Fund, which donated $144,352, and the Atlanta Braves Foundation, which donated $5,000, the Academy will feature four baseball fields among its many amenities. Terry McGuirk, Atlanta Braves chairman and president, representing the Atlanta Braves Foundation, along with Cathy Bradley, the executive director of Baseball Tomorrow Fund, and the four contributing players will take part in the Grand Opening ceremonies at Carver that will commence at 12 p.m.

The game will highlight the life and accomplishments of Jackie Robinson, featuring the recognition of 12 Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars who were awarded four-year college scholarships. Be sure to arrive early for the BATTLE OF THE DRUMLINES, which features an exciting face-off between the Atlanta Braves Heavy Hitters and the Alabama State University Drumline.

CLUBHOUSE STORE SIGNING - Macay McBride will be at the Braves Clubhouse Store in the CNN Center to sign autographs and meet fans from 2-3 p.m.

Sunday, April 16th - Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres, 1:05 PM
ALL-STAR SUNDAYS - Every Sunday the Braves are proud to feature a guest kids lineup announcer, kids honorary team captains, and each Braves player will take the field with a young Braves fan.

ATLANTA BRAVES ALUMNI AUTOGRAPHS - Atlanta Braves alumni Zane Smith, Jeff Treadway, Marty Perez and Roy Hartsfield will be on-hand to sign autographs in Fan Plaza, take part in Q & A sessions with fans, and participate in pre-game ceremonies. Different Braves alumni will be a part of every Sunday home game as a part of the Braves season-long celebration of the team's 40th anniversary in Atlanta.

KIDS RUN THE BASES - All kids ages 4-14 are invited to run the bases after every Sunday home game. Just meet at the Hank Aaron ramp entrance on the Field Level.

EVERY GAME AT TURNER FIELD:
BRAVES IN THE COMMUNITY - Stop by the Braves COMMUNITY CLUBHOUSE in Fan Plaza and at Aisle 202 during every home game to bid on autographed Braves memorabilia in the Atlanta Braves Foundation Silent Auction, with proceeds benefiting the Atlanta Braves Foundation. This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, fans will also have the chance to win half the money raised in 50/50 raffles, with the remaining 50% benefiting the Atlanta Braves Foundation and other selected charities.
