MLB: NATIONALS: Double-A Harrisburg contract extended
/noticias.info/ The Washington Nationals today announced a four-year player development contract extension through the 2010 season with the Double-A Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League. Director of Player Development Andy Dunn made the announcement.
The Senators have been an affiliate of the Nationals franchise since 1991, and have won five Eastern League titles since the inaugural campaign. The Senators became the first team in EL history to win four championships in a row when they turned the trick from 1996-99. They also won the title in 1993.
"We are ecstatic to have Harrisburg remain in the Nationals family for the foreseeable future," Dunn said. "The extension is a credit to the City of Harrisburg, the fans who have turned out in record-breaking numbers, and the hard-working members of the Senators front office under the leadership of General Manager Todd Vander Woude."
The City of Harrisburg has owned the club since 1996.
Harrisburg's final home attendance of 264,718 in 2005 was the third-highest total in team history. The Senators have surpassed the 200,000 mark an EL-record 19 straight years, and the club has reached the 250,000 plateau in seven consecutive seasons.
Harrisburg begins its 2006 season tonight at Commerce Bank Park at 6:35 p.m. vs. Erie, the start of a seven-game homestand that runs through April 12. The Senators play 71 home games in all, including games over five weekends when the Nationals are on the road (April 7-9, June 23-25, July 14-16, August 4-6 and August 25-27). Harrisburg is just two hours away from the nation's capital when traveling by car.
On February 8, the Senators announced new uniform and logo designs for the 2006 season. The following link provides images of the new monikers: http://senatorsbaseball.com/releases/020806NewLogosDL.html.
