TIGER WOODS: Block Party Raises $1 Million; Tiger Woods to Launch New EA Sports Video Game
/noticias.info/ By Mark Soltau
ANAHEIM, Ca. – The second annual Block Party at the Grove, hosted by Tiger Woods last Saturday, raised more than $1 million for the Tiger Woods Learning Center. The sellout crowd of 700 was treated to the music of Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Friends, the humor of emcee Kevin James, star of the sitcom “King of Queens,” and the cuisine of chef Bobby Flay of the Food Network.
“We always have a great time,” said Woods. “It’s fun to catch up with old friends and sponsors. I might have even learned something about cooking.”
The fun evening included a live and silent auction. The top item was a pro-am spot in the upcoming Target World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Ca., plus a private putting lesson from Woods, which sold for $40,000. Another big item was an autographed guitar from Frey and Walsh, and a private meet and greet backstage with the band and Woods, bringing $25,000.
Prior to the Block Party, Woods and PGA Tour colleague Fred Couples gave a clinic for invited guests at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa. Afterward, Woods did an exhibition for kids at the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim.
“It’s so exciting to see how far we’ve come,” Woods said of the $25 million Learning Center, which opened last February and expects to serve about 8,000 local students. “We’ve exceeded our expectations. I would love to see this blueprint expand around the world.”
Woods said the Tiger Woods Foundation is looking at the East Coast, and hopes to expand internationally within the next 10 years, possibly in Thailand and South Africa.
“The hard part is finding land and fundraising,” he said. “You have to find companies that will step up as partners and get the local community involved. We’ve had great success in Southern California and I hope we can do it again.”
Woods will make a public appearance Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood (Hollywood and Highland) to launch his new EA Sports video game, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. The public is invited to attend.
Afterward, he will tape the Ellen DeGeneres Show, which will air Wednesday, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which will air Tuesday. Check local listings for time and channel. notas_de_prensa_archivo
