Statement by Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR)
/noticias.info/ WASHINGTON, DC – Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) today issued the following statement:
"The Kerry-Edwards health care plan would create a $1.5 trillion government-run bureaucracy without lowering costs. Their program would put an enormous burden on taxpayers while taking decisions out of the hands of doctors and patients. While they have been touting their move toward socialized medicine, Kerry and Edwards have opposed serious reforms and improvements to the health care system throughout their careers. Frivolous lawsuits against doctors cost Americans over $100 billion each year, while more and more of Oregon’s obstetricians have stopped delivering babies. Yet, John Kerry and John Edwards have consistently fought medical liability reform. Kerry and Edwards even opposed bipartisan legislation that guarantees affordable prescription drugs for 40 million seniors.”
