Who needs a puny car when you can race in a monster truck? In Monster Trucks, you compete against three computer-controlled trucks on 3D courses.
Each course is littered with off-road elements. Your monster truck will drive over moguls and old cars, sail off dirt ramps and stop dead in its tracks when it hits a tree. Try avoiding that last part.
The race winner and runner-up get prize money to upgrade their trucks. Bonus cash appears on each course, giving you a chance to pad your earnings. Too bad that doesn't happen when you run out for a quart of milk in real life.
If you chose Career Mode, each course consists of at least two laps. If you select Quick Race, you'll get monstrous for five laps on the the course of your choice.
The game's frame rate keeps the action moving just fine, and you can plainly see the obstacles on each course. However, if you plan on racing in Career Mode, be prepared to go all the way. Monster Trucks does not offer a save or password feature. The lack of a multi-player mode severly limits your opportunity to trash-talk your buds.
Bottom Line
Running over things is nice, but winning the race is even better.
