Football Europe: Vonk agrees Ajax extension

/noticias.info/ AFC Ajax have extended goalkeeper Hans Vonk's contract for 12 months until the summer of 2006. The 35-year-old South African international joined from SC Heerenveen last year and appeared in 19 Eredivisie matches, two UEFA Champions League games and two Dutch Cup ties in the course of last season. He said: "I really like it here, because I have had the chance to play a lot. Hopefully that will continue into next season."

Another Eredivisie outfit, FC Twente, have agreed a deal to sign Danny Wintjens next season. The 21-year-old goalkeeper joins on a free transfer from MVV Maastricht, where his contract expires at the end of the current campaign after four years with the club. Wintjens has signed a one-year deal with the Enschede club, who just missed out on a place in next season's UEFA Cup, and will compete with Sander Boschker and Remko Pasveer for a place in the starting lineup.

Czech goalkeeper Daniel Zitka has extended his contract with Belgian First Division side RSC Anderlecht. The deal he signed when he joined from KSC Lokeren OV in the summer of 2002 had been due to expire in June 2006 but the 29-year-old has extended that agreement for a further two years.

Bolton Wanderers FC have released a total of seven players including the long-serving defender Anthony Barness. Goalkeeper Kevin Poole has also been released along with injury-troubled defender Júlio César, Florent Laville, Jason Talbot, Charlie Comyn-Platt and Ricky Shakes. The 37-year-old former Spain and Real Madrid CF defender Fernando Hierro has also left after retiring following Sunday's victory against Everton FC.

Walter Meeuws has been appointed technical director at Al Jazeera in the United Arab Emirates. The vastle experienced Meeuws, whose previous sides include K. Lierse SK, K. Sint-Truidense VV, R. Antwerp FC, KAA Gent and KV Mechelen in Belgium, Turkish Superleague side Gençlerbirligi SK and the Belgian national team, has signed a two-year contract with an option for another year. notas_de_prensa_archivo
