FIFA World Cup: Allianz-Arena set to open

/noticias.info/ The new Allianz-Arena in Munich will be officially opened this week with a series of friendly matches.

1860 kick-off
All eyes will be on the Bavarian capital over the next few days as the inaugural games are played at one of the main venues for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. TSV 1860 München kick off proceedings this evening when they take on local rivals 1. FC Nürnberg.

Notable absences
On Tuesday FC Bayern München take to the field at the new ground for the first time. They face Germany's national team, and all 66,000 available tickets were snapped up weeks ago. Bayern will be without Brazilian internationals Zé Roberto and Lucio, Peru's José Paolo Guerrero and Claudio Pizarro, and Paraguayan Roque Santa Cruz, who are all on international duty.

Bayern quintet
Bayern's German internationals Oliver Kahn, Michael Ballack, Torsten Frings, Sebastian Deisler and Bastian Schweinsteiger will appear for their club against the national side.

'Best in Europe'
Along with the players and spectators, Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer cannot wait to see the new stadium open its doors. "I think we have succeeded in building the best stadium in Europe. The atmosphere will be fantastic. I am absolutely sure we have created a worthy arena for the opening match of the 2006 World Cup," said Beckenbauer.

Munich derby
To satisfy the high demand for tickets, Bayern and 1860 have agreed to take part in a further friendly on Thursday. However, Bayern will be without even more internationals for that game with World Cup qualifiers looming and Germany preparing for the FIFA Confederations Cup. notas_de_prensa_archivo
