FIFA World Cup: Breen out, Lindenbergh in
/noticias.info/ The FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign resumes across Europe over the next ten days with two rounds of matches taking place in the continent's eight groups. uefa.com rounds up the latest squad news.
Breen blow
Republic of Ireland coach Brian Kerr has to contend with the absence of Sunderland AFC defender Gary Breen for the Group 4 game against Israel in Dublin on 4 June.
'Daily treatment'
Kerr said: "Gary's knee injury has failed to respond to daily treatment. I am disappointed to lose a defender of his experience, but I hope he will be back for the games in the autumn." However, Kerr expects Liverpool FC right-back Steve Finnan to be fit despite a thigh strain suffered in the UEFA Champions League final.
Grant worries
Israel coach Avraham Grant will be without the suspended Tal Ben Haim of Bolton Wanderers FC and Maccabi Haifa FC's Walid Badier for the same match. Grant said: "Both Walid and Tal's contributions have been vital in the campaign so far. But what choice have I got?"
Kolinko break
Latvia's first-choice goalkeeper Aleksandrs Kolinko will miss the matches against Russia on 4 June and Liechtenstein on 8 June after breaking his arm. Coach Jurijs Andrejevs said: "Unfortunately, he will need at least a month to recover." Two new faces have been drafted in - Pavels Doroševs from Skonto FC and Pavels Davidovs of FK Ventspils – because Kolinko's regular deputy Andrejs Piedels has been suffering from concussion.
Malfeev out
FC Zenit St. Petersburg goalkeeper Viacheslav Malafeev is unavailable for Russia after tearing a thigh muscle. Coach Yuri Semin will choose from Igor Akinfeev from PFC CSKA Moskva and Sergei Ovchinnikov of FC Lokomotiv Moskva to replace Malafeev.
Trio sidelined
The injured Nuno Valente, Ricardo Carvalho and Luís Boa Morte are all out of the Portugal squad to face Slovakia and Estonia on 4 and 8 June respectively.
Janas recruits
Poland coach Pawel Janas has called up 1. FC Nürnberg defender Bartosz Bosacki and FC Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Mariusz Lewandowski for the meetings with Azerbaijan and Albania.
Murray chance
Hibernian FC defender Ian Murray has been called into the Scotland party for the qualifiers against Moldova and Belarus. The Hibernian captain joins three club mates - defender Gary Caldwell and strikers Derek Riordan and Garry O'Connor - for the matches that are vital to resurrecting Scotland's Group 5 hopes.
Lindenbergh added
AZ Alkmaar midfielder Olaf Lindenbergh has been added to the Netherlands squad to play Romania and Finland. He replaces Phillip Cocu, who sustained knee ligament damage during PSV Eindhoven's Dutch Cup final victory against Willem II. The 31-year-old Lindenbergh is the third Alkmaar debutant in the squad, alongside Ron Vlaar and Barry Opdam.
Finland changes
Finland coach Antti Muurinen has added FC Haka defender Juuso Kangaskorpi and Tampere United midfield player Jarkko Wiss to the squad for the friendly against Denmark on 2 June. Kangaskorpi has four international caps, while Wiss has played 41 games for Finland, scoring three goals. notas_de_prensa_archivo
