The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) has secured orders for the turnkey construction of two power plants in Qatar and Dubai. The purchaser of the plant in Qatar is a consortium comprising Qatar Electricity & Water Company, International Power and Chubu Electric Power. The second order was placed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). Siemens PG also is to supply key components for the El Kureimat gas turbine power plant in Egypt.
As consortium leader, Siemens PG will partner with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd. to build the Ras Laffan B combined cycle power plant in Qatar. The Siemens PG scope of supply encompasses three gas turbines, two steam turbines, and the associated electrical, and instrumentation and control equipment. Commercial operation is scheduled for May 2008. The plant will then have an installed capacity of approximately 1000 MW and the seawater desalination plant supplied by Doosan will produce approximately 27,500 cubic meters of drinking water daily.
Siemens PG also is to supply three gas turbines, including the instrumentation and control equipment, for a gas turbine power plant in Dubai. It also will handle installation and commissioning. The plant, which will have an installed capacity of 400 MW, is scheduled for commercial operation in early 2007.
For the El Kureimat power plant located 90 kilometers south of Cairo, Egypt, Siemens PG will supply two gas turbines, as well as the plant’s auxiliary systems. Purchasers are Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company.
”Ras Laffan is the first turnkey order for Siemens PG from the fast-developing area of Qatar,” stated Klaus Voges, President of Siemens Power Generation. “Together with the successes in Dubai and Egypt we have succeeded in further consolidating our leading market position in the Middle East and Egypt.” Following Nubaria and Talkha, El Kureimat is the third power plant order that Siemens PG has posted in Egypt within a short period of time.
The Power Generation Group (PG) of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector. In fiscal 2004 (which ended September 30), Siemens PG posted sales amounting to approximately EUR7.5 billion and received new orders totaling EUR9.2 billion. Group profit amounted to EUR961 million. On September 30, 2004, PG had a work force of approximately 30,900 worldwide. Further information at: http://www.siemens.com/powergeneration. notas_de_prensa_archivo
