FIFA World Cup: Matthäus to face Argentina
/noticias.info/ Hungary will play Argentina in a friendly at the Férenc Puskás stadium in Budapest on 17 August - a match that will bring back memories for coach Lothar Matthäus.
Tough test
The Hungarian Football Federation confirmed the meeting with the Argentinians as part of its traditional 'national day' celebrations on 20 August. In previous years, Hungary have played the likes of Germany, Spain and Brazil to mark the occasion, and are set for a tough test against the first team to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup from South America. Matthäus, the player, was in the West German sides that took on Argentina in the 1986 and 1990 World Cup finals, losing the first and winning the second.
Teams to beat
Hungary face a difficult task to join them in Germany next summer. They are third in European qualifying Group 8, five points behind second-placed Sweden and a further point adrift of leaders Croatia with four games to play. Their next qualifier is at home to last-placed Malta on 3 September. notas_de_prensa_archivo
