Football Europe: Bologna thankful for Tare strike
/noticias.info/ Bologna FC earned a narrow away win at Parma FC in the first leg of their Serie A relegation play-off, Igli Tare's early effort proving enough for a crucial victory at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
Away goal
The visitors were quickly into their stride, controlling the early possession and troubling the Parma defence with a succession of high balls towards lone striker Tare. Eighteen minutes in, the tactic paid dividends as the Bologna striker out-jumped Paolo Cannavaro at the far post to head the ball beyond Parma goalkeeper Sébastien Frey and give the away team a potentially crucial away goal.
Pagliuca stop
Parma had struggled to make an impression in the early stages, but might have drawn level six minutes after falling behind as Francesco Ruopolo - in for the suspended Alberto Gilardino - broke into the box, but Bologna goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca was equal to his right-footed effort.
Missed opportunities
Cesare Bovo then headed just wide, but Bologna also had chances to extend their lead, Claudio Bellucci failing to convert Mourad Meghni's pass before Frey saved another attempt from Tare. At the other end, Pagliuca was called upon twice in quick succession at the start of the second half, denying first Fabio Henrique Simplicio and then Renato Olive.
Late drama
With time running out, Parma threw more men forward, Olive heading a Mark Bresciano corner wide before both coaches - Pietro Carmignani of Parma and Bologna's Carlo Mazzone, together with substitutes Christian Amoroso of Bologna and Parma's reserve goalkeeper Luca Bucci - were sent off as tensions rose on the touchline. Simplicio might have given Parma a draw ahead of Saturday's second leg, but fired wide from close range deep into added time to leave Bologna with the narrowest of advantages. notas_de_prensa_archivo
