WIMBLEDON: Johansson Triumphs Over Ulihrach
/noticias.info/ Tuesday, June 21, 2005
Thomas Johansson of Sweden, the No.12 seed, defeated 119th ranked Bohdan Ulihrach of the Czech Republic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
The Swedish No.2 opened the match with a strong service game and a lot of support in the crowd. The first set featured powerful baseline rallies combined with a seasoning of drop shots from both players. It was Johansson who seemed the least well settled though, until a gift of the eighth game from 30-year-old Ulihrach let Johansson serve for the first set.
After two sets Ulihrach received treatment on his elbow, but this did not deflect Johansson from the task in hand. The former Australian Champion was soon serving to win the match, having seen off the most substantial threat in the first set.
The pair have met three times before, although never on grass, with Ulihrach winning all the encounters.
Thirty-year-old Johansson, who lost to Federer in the third round at Wimbledon last year, goes on to meet Andrei Pavel of Romania in the second round.
