The two Spanish signings excited the Anfield fans and they were soon into their stride.

Despite interest from Real Madrid Xabi Alonso chose to sign for Rafael Benitez and join his rafalution at Anfield from Real Sociedad, while Luis Garcia left his boyhood team Barcelona for a new challenge with Liverpool.
