SAA FAST RECOVERING FROM INDUSTRIAL ACTION
/noticias.info/ Johannesburg. 29 July 2005. South African Airways’ (SAA) operations are fast recovering after the resolution of industrial action, yesterday.
Industrial action at the airline resulted in its ground staff and cabin crew downing tools on Friday, 22 July after wage negotiations between SAA management and its unions, SATAWU, AIWU (UASA) deadlocked.
An agreement was reached yesterday between SAA and labour in which staff would receive a 5% increase on pensionable wages, 5% on medical, 5% on housing and an additional 1% increase on non-pensionable allowance.
SAA had to cancel some of it domestic flights today, the first day after the end of industrial action, regional and international flights should be operating as normal by the end of the weekend
SAA is however still experiencing a backlog of passengers stranded in London and is maximising its efforts to assist them.
SAA regrets to announce that SA235, SA237 to Johannesburg & SA221 to Cape Town will not be departing from London, Heathrow on Friday, 29 July. Passengers booked on these flights are advised not to go to the airport until further notice.

“We are working with determination to ensure that there are zero disruptions to our flight schedule in the shortest time possible,” says Onkgopotse JJ Tabane, SAA General Manager Communications and Customer Services.
“The airline cannot apologise enough to all of its passengers for the inconvenience industrial action has caused them.”
