31 July 2005

Doha, QATAR – Five-year-old Nour Salman Al Kawari is celebrating becoming the youngest person in Qatar to win one million Riyals in Qatar Duty Free’s exclusive money-spinning prize draw.

The youngster was elevated to star status after her winning ticket was drawn to become
Qatar Duty Free’s fourth millionaire. Her winning ticket was purchased at Doha International Airport while accompanying her father on a trip to Dubai on Qatar Airways, parent company of Qatar Duty Free.

At a presentation ceremony of her cheque, Nour took her winnings in her stride, not too disillusioned by the attention she has been receiving since winning the QAR1 million jackpot, equivalent to US$280,000.

A beaming Nour said she was happy to receive the cheque, but was more content on the bouquet of flowers and a model of a Qatar Airways aircraft.

Her father Salman Al Kawari said he was delighted for his daughter and pledged to invest the money for Nour until she was old enough to manage her winnings.

Qatar Duty Free Assistant General Manager Krishna Kumari said she was thrilled for Nour to be the youngest millionaire and first Qatari to win the jackpot prize since Qatar Duty Free launched the draw 18 months ago.

”This is fantastic news and we are absolutely thrilled to have Nour win our most exclusive prize draw,” said Kumari.

It was the fourth successful millionaire draw organised by Qatar Duty Free, which sold some 3000 tickets for QR450 (US$125) each since the last draw in February 2005.

Qatar Duty Free, a subsidiary of Qatar Airways has been experiencing continued and significant growth. It enjoyed 78 per cent increase in net profits last year over the 2004 levels and 58 per cent growth in turnover year on year. It has ramped up its presence in the departures and arrivals area at Doha International Airport to offer more items.

Qatar Duty Free has invested more than $1m in refurbishing the existing shopping facilities in the departures area, which was completed late last year.

The new-look Qatar Duty Free sells a huge range of items, offering passengers a wider choice of products at the best prices and a thoroughly enjoyable shopping experience.
Qatar Duty Free stocks more than 22,000 product lines ranging from perfumes, cosmetics, beverages, food and toys.

Qatar Duty Free is also proud to announce the arrival of leading international brand Bulgari watches and jewellery as the first in the region.

Work has already begun on the new $5.5bn Doha International Airport, a state-of-the-art facility that will be built on reclaimed land and opened in phases beginning in 2009.

The new airport will have a larger duty free shopping area that will compete at the highest
levels with many of its rivals around the world.

Qatar Airways is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world operating a fleet of 40 all-Airbus aircraft to 66 destinations worldwide. The airline plans to serve 70 cities by the end of 2005.

The Qatar Airways group of companies includes Qatar Duty Free, Qatar Aviation Services, Qatar Aviation Catering Company, Qatar Airways Holidays, United Media International, Qatar Distribution Company and Doha International Airport. notas_de_prensa_archivo
