UK: THREE NEW MEMBERS APPOINTED TO GOVERNMENT'S ADVISORY BODY ON ZOOS
/noticias.info/
Three new members have been appointed to the Zoos Forum, the Government's independent advisory body on zoos. The new members are: Anna Meredith, Head of the Exotic Animal Service and senior lecturer at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, and a Scottish Executive zoo inspector Stephen Woollard, currently Head of Education at Dudley Zoo, shortly taking up post as Interpretation Officer for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland at Edinburgh Zoo.
Dr Brian Bertram, who has worked as a freelance zoological conservation consultant, Director of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and zoo curator, currently a Defra zoo inspector.
The Forum was established in 1999 to advise Government on regulation of zoos, to encourage the role of zoos in conservation work and help ensure that captive wild animals are properly cared for. It has been a great help to Government in overseeing the zoos regulatory regime. The members of the Forum, appointed by Defra Ministers, represent a broad range of expertise and experience relevant to zoos, including zoo inspectors, zoo operators, experts in zoos' role in education and conservation, vets and animal welfare experts and local authority representatives.
