MALAYSIA AIRLINES INVESTS IN ORACLE TO DRIVE HIGH PERFORMANCE CULTURE

/noticias.info/ Kuala Lumpur, August 2, 2005 –Malaysia Airlines today formally announced that Oracle and Accenture have been appointed to implement an integrated Human Resources Management System (iHRMS) for the company to manage its employees globally. The iHRMS will enhance Malaysia Airlines’ Human Resource division capabilities and enable the team to increase its focus and resources on managing strategic, high value-add activities.

The overall iHRMS will cost RM17 million inclusive of software, hardware, infrastructure cost and training. The project team expects to complete the roll-out within 16 months.

The project will be implemented in two phases:
a) Phase 1: To be rolled out by May 2006. This will consist of core human resource application - including payroll, I-expense, basic HR Self-Service -which drive more accurate data and integrated data analysis processes.
b) Phase 2: To be rolled out by October 2006. This will consist of advanced HR Self-Service functions, which include I-recruitment, training and education, workforce planning & modeling, HR intelligence and performance management modules.

Accenture is the consulting and implementation party working closely with MAS and Oracle on this project. Together, Oracle and Accenture are committed to helping MAS’ achieve success in this project.”

Sadeesh Raghavan, Managing Partner, Transportation & Travel Services Practice (Asia Pacific), Accenture, said that the successful delivery of an integrated HR management system means more than just superior technology implementation. “At the core, it is basically about delivering tangible business benefits. Accenture has a proven track record of working with global airline and other industry leaders both in Malaysia and globally on similar projects, and successfully delivering the required business results,” he said.

This investment in the iHRMS is in line with the Malaysian Government’s policy and initiatives for improvements in government linked companies (GLC), which include developing a performance-based culture and managing/developing talent for succession planning. The performance-based modules of the iHRMS will allow for a systematic approach in managing and administering the planning, tracking and review of employees’ performance. This includes identifying and reviewing Key Results Areas (KRA) and competencies, administering employees’ performance appraisals and rewarding them based on their performance. In addition, within the training and education module, the iHRMS system will also improve the management of competencies related to company and employees, career planning, succession planning and employee development plan.

The iHRMS has a web-based Employee Self-Service (ESS) portal functionality. Malaysia Airlines employees are expected to gain from the self-service feature, as they are fully responsible for managing their own employee details, submission of expenses, performance management tracking, training and development.

“Malaysia Airlines, which was recently ranked a 5-Star airline by aviation rating organization-Skytrax, recognises the need for continuous operational improvements. Using IT as one of the enabling tools for improvement, Malaysia Airlines is confident that the iHRMS will enhance the efficiency and performance of its workforce,” said Haji Yusof Ahmad Muhaiyuddin, General Manager, Human Resources, Malaysia Airlines.

Malaysia Airlines joins the likes of leading international airlines such as Qantas and Cathay Pacific Airways, which are part of Oracle’s growing list of customers in the airlines industry.

“This deal is a significant one for Oracle as we now extend our reach into the local aviation industry and also expand our customer base in human capital management. This builds on our successful applications track record across key industries in Malaysia,” said VR Srivatsan, Managing Director, Oracle Corporation. “This investment reflects the recognition that Malaysia Airlines places on its employees as very important assets to the organisation, and also the value of a high performance culture as a differentiator for its business.”

“The implementation of HRMS at Malaysia Airlines further reiterates the leadership Oracle has as the world’s No. 1 in human capital management. More than 8,000 organisations globally are running on Oracle Human Capital Management. This is a clear testament of the benefit of Oracle’s robust, flexible and scalable solutions for companies across industries,” he added.
