SRILANKAN : SriLankan extends network to Sydney and Cyprus
/noticias.info/ SriLankan Airlines has extended its network to include daily services to Sydney and 10 flights a week to Cyprus , offering increased services to its passengers through the use of codeshare arrangements with its strategic partner Emirates.
At the same time, SriLankan continues to expand its own network and recently launched thrice-weekly services to the Chinese capital, Beijing . With the addition of these destinations, SriLankan Airlines will provide services to 48 destinations in 27 countries.
SriLankan Airlines has greatly expanded its presence in markets across Europe, Asia and Australia through the use of codeshare agreements with its strategic partner Emirates, venturing to destinations that would be otherwise impractical to service at the present time.
“SriLankan is constantly searching for ways by which to increase services and the scope of our network. Apart from launching our own flights to new destinations and increasing frequencies to existing destinations, we have been increasing our use of codeshares through our partner Emirates,” said Barry Brown, Head of Commercial at SriLankan. “This is a highly profitable strategy for the National Carrier and raises our profile and marketing opportunities. It gives us a definite competitive edge at a time when the global airline industry is in crisis over skyrocketing fuel prices.”
SriLankan has capitalized on the advantages of codesharing for many years, both prior to and following its privatization. It currently has codeshare agreements with Malaysia Airlines, Indian Airlines, Oman Air, and BMI (British Midland), apart from Emirates. In turn, these airlines use SriLankan's flights to extend their own networks.
Sydney is SriLankan's third destination in Australia , with daily codeshare services having begun to Brisbane and Melbourne in April. Other destinations covered through codeshares agreements between SriLankan and Emirates on the latter's flights are Dubai (18 times a week), Düsseldorf (7), Frankfurt (14), Munich (14), Singapore (4), Jakarta (4), New York (7), Paris (12), Zurich (7), Male (11), Birmingham (14), Manchester (14), Muscat (3), London Gatwick (14), Glasgow (7), and Bahrain (14).
The two airlines have teamed up strategically to codeshare on each other's flights to destinations that are serviced by both, which are Paris , Bahrain , Muscat , Frankfurt, Male, and Singapore , as well as the Dubai-Colombo sector.
“The combining of services allows both airlines to provide their customers with the flexibility of having multiple choices as to what day of the week and what time they can fly. Everyone benefits – SriLankan, Emirates, and most of all our passengers,” said Barry Brown.
SriLankan and Emirates have been working closely to support each other since Emirates became a shareholder and assumed management of Sri Lanka 's National Carrier in 1998. The two airlines have teamed up in many areas as they share similar high standards in their quality of service. Skywards, the frequent flyer programme operated by SriLankan and Emirates, has continuously swept the global frequent flyer awards, the Freddies,” including the coveted title of “Programme of the Year.”
