EAST LINE : Rapid Transportation System “Pveletsky Railway Station-Domodedovo”: Three Years in Operation
/noticias.info/ 3 August, 2005 is a three year anniversary of the rapid transportation system (RTS), the joint project of the “Russian Railroads” and Domodedovo International Airport.
For the three years of operation, Aeroexpress train serviced nearly 6.5 million passengers and more than 8.600 tons of luggage on the route Paveletsky Railway Station – Domodedovo Airport. Some 600.000 luggage units checked in at the Paveletsky Terminal, specially constructed to service air passengers.
For the first six months of 2005, passenger flow at Aeroexpress train reached 1.5 million people, a 17% increase over the same period of 2004. In average, the Aeroexpress train transfers up to 7.500 passengers daily, which is a quarter of overall passenger traffic of Domodedovo International Airport.
Today, comfortable eight-carriage trains run every 30 minutes mornings and evenings and every hour during the day. According to the plans of the RTS development, an interval between the Aeroexpress train operations will be shorten up to 20 minutes, the train capacity will be increased by two more carriages, the train will include a first-class carriage, and the area of the Paveletsky Terminal will be extended.
Passengers actively use advantages of a well-know intermodal transportation technology that allows adjusting flight schedule to Aeroxress arrival timetable and optimizing the service technology. Currently, in the framework of this technology two intermodal programmes are available, which are “From Moscow to St Petersburg for 2 hours 20 minutes” and “Samara Aeroexpress: from the center of Moscow to Samara for 199 minutes”.
Intermodal projects provide additional advantages to airlines and let air passengers get from different cities to the center of Moscow within a certain minimum time. Transfer of passengers to the Airport is free. They can also check in at the Paveletsky Terminal.
With an assistance of the “Russian Railroads” additional trains will be launched from the Paveletsky Railway Station to Domodedovo Airport starting from 5 August, 2005. Trains will leave the Paveletsky Station at 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., and Domodedovo Airport – at 6:50 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
These measures are introduced in response to the poll conducted among airlines and air passengers. They are aimed at satisfaction of passengers’ needs to get to and from the airport.
Increasing the frequency of Aeroexpress operations corresponds to the plans of airlines based at Domodedovo airport to launch additional morning and afternoon flights.
In the near future entrance gates to the platforms at the Airport and Paveletsky Railway Station will be equipped with turnstiles. Implementation of the turnstile access system will allow to launch a number of promotional programmes such a return ticket as well as to introduce a discount ticket system.
