UK: EU PRESIDENCY STATEMENT: FLOODING IN BULGARIA

On behalf of the European Union, the UK Presidency offers its condolences and support to those affected by the recent flooding in Bulgaria. The Presidency of the European Union was deeply concerned to hear about the loss of life and widespread damage to property caused by the floods.

The Bulgarian Government has made an official appeal for international assistance through the European Union. In addition to the European Union's collective response, the Presidency is pleased that a number of European Union Member States have already provided bilateral aid or are actively considering doing so. The European Commission has visited the affected areas and is producing an assessment of the damage. Longer term sources of reconstruction aid are currently under discussion.
