Rangers continue victory march
/noticias.info/ Scottish champions Rangers FC continued their winning start to the campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC on Saturday, while Celtic FC defeated Dundee United FC 2-0.
Brewster focus
New signing Julien Rodriguez was kept in reserve but it was fellow Frenchman José Pierre-Fanfan who almost opened the scoring for the visiting side with an overhead kick that player-manager Craig Brewster was forced to clear off the line.
Ferguson winner
Inverness came close to scoring on a number of occasions and it looked as though the game was heading for a stalemate until Rangers made the breakthrough on 69 minutes, Dado Pršo cutting the ball back for captain Barry Ferguson who converted from close range.
Nakamura impresses
Japanese midfield player Shunsuke Nakamura made his debut for Celtic and was instrumental in their 2-0 win against Dundee United FC at Celtic Park. John Hartson opened the scoring for Gordon Strachan’s side, slotting past Derek Stillie on 36 minutes for his 75th Scottish Premier League goal, and Craig Beattie sealed the points with a clinical second-half strike.
Kilmarnock victory
Kilmarnock FC surprised Aberdeen FC with a 2-1 win at Pittodrie. Killie took the lead in the first minute courtesy of a slack back-pass from Kevin McNaughton. Winger Alan Johnston capitalised to roll the ball over the line. The Dons responded with a goal from captain Russell Anderson on 34 minutes, but with 20 minutes remaining Steven Naismith scored his second goal of the season, racing from the halfway line before rounding Ryan Esson and slotting the ball into the net.
Motherwell success
Motherwell FC needed an injury-time goal from Jim Hamilton to give them a 1-0 victory over Dunfermline Athletic FC at Fir Park. The visiting side played most of the game with ten men after defender Scott Wilson was sent-off for violent conduct on 24 minutes.
Latapy goal
Elsewhere, newcomers Falkirk FC recorded their first SPL win with a 2-0 victory against Livingston FC at Almondvale. Veteran playmaker Russell Latapy opened the scoring with a superb 20-metre strike on 28 minutes and the second came courtesy of an own goal from defender Dave Mackay on 72 minutes. Heart of Midlothian FC and Hibernian FC meet tomorrow at Tynecastle for the first Edinburgh derby of the season.
