CHELSEA FC: Chelsea Youth 0 Barcelona Youth 1
/noticias.info/ Chelsea lost the Final of the Northern Ireland Milk Cup yesterday evening, Friday, to a team technically advanced of anyone they had played so far. But it was close.
By the time Barcelona had taken the lead midway throught the first-half, Rhys Taylor had made a fine save. The winner was a cross from a free-kick, like Ronaldinho in the World Cup.
The team had taken to the pitch with a good luck phone call from José Mourinho. But it was a tired performance after a demanding week, and suspended Dean Furman who had enjoyed a fine tournament was missed.
Chelsea went close to equalising in the final minutes, Nana Ofori and Shaun Cummings forcing fine saves from their goalkeeper. Defender Martin Mancienne and striker Scott Sinclair (pictured) both enhanced their reputations during the tournament.
“It’s been a terrific week of football both for the individual players and the team,” said coach Brendan Rodgers. “We’ve given a terrific account of ourselves, and we’ve given an excellent account of the club which was very important to what we are doing. The support was excellent.” Just over 6,000 attended the Final.
It was Chelsea’s first time of entering the tournament, and the team will be back next year.
Team Taylor; Ofori, Mancienne, Cork, Bertrand; Bridcutt; Hutchinson, Sawyer (Anderson); Saarlema (Ismail); Cummings, Sinclair.
