EVERTON : HINCH: SIGNING SENDS OUT MESSAGE
/noticias.info/ Andy Hinchcliffe knows all about making the switch from Manchester to Merseyside.
The former England international moved from Manchester City to Everton in 1990, proving a success during his eight years and more than 200 games on Merseyside.
Now retired as a player and back in Manchester working as a pundit on local radio, Hinchcliffe believes Phil Neville’s move down the East Lancs to Goodison will send a signal out to other potential Everton signings.
He told evertonfc.com: “Seeing Everton signing him is bound to send a signal out to players, it certainly sends a signal out to me.
“It tells me they are doing something right at Everton and if other players see a player of his calibre going to Goodison then it will make the club very attractive to them.
“Once you get one or two quality players going through the door it can open the flood gates and change the image of a club completely.
“After so long at United it is a surprise he has left. But he has joined another enormous club and to encourage Phil to leave Manchester United shows the power the club has and proves they are doing an awful lot right.
“He will know what a fabulous club Everton is and when you get players to come over and speak to the club that is the first hurdle. Once you get over that first hurdle and get a player to speak to Everton it is hard to walk away from the opportunity because Everton is a magnicifent club.”
Neville is expected to go straight into the Blues’ starting line-up for Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier against Villarreal at Goodison and Hinchcliffe believes his vast experience of European competition could prove invaluable.
He continues: “I am sure his European experience was a big factor in David Moyes looking at a player like him. It is a different story for Everton in the Champions League and they need as many players, either at the club or that they can get into the club with that experience to carry them as far as they can in that competition.
Phil Neville
Phil Neville's move from Manchester United to Everton was a pleasant surprise for former Blue Andy Hinchcliffe.
“And when you bring players of that quality in they will help you maintain a strong position in the Premiership and ensure the club is involved in Europe for many years to come. It is a long-term signing because he is still relatively young.”
Like Neville, Hinchcliffe was primarily seen as a full-back but he was also adaptable, making a mark on the left of midfield on a number of occasions.
He believes Neville’s adaptability will benefit David Moyes.
He continues: “Phil has been known for his versatility in all the time he has been at Manchester United but I don’t think he has played as many games as maybe he would have expected to because of all the world class players they have had there.
“He has come in and done a really good job in a variety of positions both in defence and midfield as well so he is known as a versatile player for England as well.
“I think it will do him good and stepping up to Everton now the fans will expect a lot from him and playing regularly will give him a chance to maintain those good performances on a regular basis.
“He will endear himself to the fans because he does what he does very well. He keeps things simple but is very effective. He is very professional and has learned a lot from Alex Ferguson and he will take that with him and he can lead by example.”
