UK: Human rights are the way to security, not a barrier to it

/noticias.info/ Amnesty International is calling on the UK authorities to ensure that human rights are central to any new legislation or measures that may be introduced as suggested by Prime Minister Tony Blair in a speech he gave this morning.

"It is right and proper that the UK Government takes action to prevent further brutal and callous attacks such as those that took place in London on 7 July 2005. But security measures have to be based on human rights if they are to be effective, and we will be looking very carefully at the government's proposals."

Prime Minister Tony Blair said on 5 August the government was prepared to amend human rights laws to make deportations of people who threaten national security easier. notas_de_prensa_archivo
