/noticias.info/
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott tonight led the tributes to Robin Cook who died today after collapsing on a Scottish mountain, aged 59. He said: "This is truly sad and tragic news. My thoughts are with Robin's family at this time and I offer them condolences on behalf of the whole Government.
Robin was the greatest parliamentarian of his generation. He also made an enormous contribution to British politics in opposition and in Government. He will be sorely missed.''
Labour Party chair Ian McCartney said: "Everyone in the Labour Party will be shocked at this devastating news. Robin was a good friend, a highly respected politician and a great servant of the Labour Party. The thoughts of Labour Party members will be with his family at this very sad time."
Scottish First Minister and Labour leader Jack McConnell led tributes from Scotland, saying those suffering injustice had lost ``a powerful voice''.
He said: ``I will miss his friendship, his support and his contribution to public debate.
Robin Cook was one the outstanding Scottish and Labour politicians of the late 20th Century.
He was always willing to challenge orthodox thinking and he was a great champion of less popular causes.
He played a key role in making Labour electable again and he helped convince many that it was possible to be both pragmatic and radical.
Those suffering from injustice or disadvantage have lost a powerful voice.'' notas_de_prensa_archivo
