UEFA Cup: Claessens faces lengthy lay-off

/noticias.info/ UEFA Cup entrants KRC Genk will be without the 33-year-old utility player Gert Claessens for several months after he sustained a ligament injury in the 1-1 draw with KSC Lokeren OV on Saturday.

Ligament tear
An initial examination of his knee did not reveal serious damage, but after Claessens suffered serious discomfort during the night it was decided to conduct another scan. The second check revealed a tear in his cruciate ligament that requires surgery and several months of rehabilitation. Claessens will have the operation tomorrow.

Vandooren switch
There was better news elsewhere at the club though after Genk reached an agreement with R. Standard de Liège for their 25-year-old left wing-back Gonzague Vandooren. The former R. Excelsior Mouscron and K. Lierse SK player is expected to sign a four-year contract. notas_de_prensa_archivo
