LIVERPOOL FC: BOSS: WE NEED TO PLAY TO NANDO'S STRENGTHS
/noticias.info/ Rafa Benitez today claimed Fernando Morientes will benefit from better service into the penalty area this season.
The Spanish striker has been criticised in some quarters for his pre-season displays to date, but his manager remains convinced the former Real Madrid man will be a success at Anfield over the coming campaign.
"We know Fernando can play better and he knows he can play better. He wants to do that," said Benitez.
"All the ingredients are in place to ensure we see the best of him this season. When we put more crosses in the box for him, you will see a better player.
"I don't think we need to change a lot of things to get more from him. If you see our style, particularly at Anfield, we try to get players wide and the idea is to get more crosses in.
"We need to do that far more at home and away. We also need to keep the ball better. That's one of our biggest problems away from home. The more we have the ball, the more opportunities we will have to provide the right pass to our strikers."
He added: "We have more options in terms of the forwards and different combinations. Morientes will benefit this season from having Crouch alongside him.
"They are both good in the air but they're also comfortable on the ball. It's a shame for Peter he's injured after just arriving, but he will be fit soon and he'll show what a good player he is." notas_de_prensa_archivo
