Football Europe: Areias makes Boavista switch
/noticias.info/ Boavista FC have landed FC Porto full-back Miguel Areias on loan for the 2005/06 campaign. The defender was not part of Porto coach Co Adriaanse's plans for the coming season and crosses the city to sign for Porto's SuperLiga rivals. The 28-year-old made just nine league appearances last term.
English Premiership newcomers Sunderland AFC have made Scotland striker Andy Gray their tenth summer signing. The 27-year-old leaves second-tier side Sheffield United FC to sign a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light in a €1.6m transfer. Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy said: "Andy will add experience and know-how to our strike force. He will complement our existing strikers."
Deportivo Alavés SAD have released centre-back Abel Valenzuela, who is set to join Segunda División outfit UD Salamanca on a three-year contract. The 23-year-old quits Alavés after only one season after finding himself surplus to requirements for the team's return to the Spanish top flight.
Falkirk FC have completed the capture of midfield player Jack Ross from Hartlepool United FC. The 29-year-old has agreed a one-year deal with the Scottish Premier League newcomers.
Motherwell FC have recruited the former Livingston FC and Kilmarnock FC goalkeeper Colin Meldrum on a short-term contract. Manager Terry Butcher has taken the 29-year-old as cover while regular No1 Gordon Marshall receives treatment for an elbow injury.
Coleraine FC's survival saga has taken another twist after Belfast High Court gave the club a one-month reprieve to sort out their finances. The debt-ridden Northern Irish Premier Division outfit, who won the Irish Cup in 2003 and have finished in the top four in four of the past five seasons, were expected to cease operating today but will instead have until 20 August to rescue themselves. They will therefore start the new campaign on Saturday 13 August, denying Crusaders FC, who were relegated last term, and Donegal Celtic FC, who finished third in the First Division, a chance of taking their place. notas_de_prensa_archivo
