UEFA Cup: Teplice reliant on Rilke strike
/noticias.info/ Emil Rilke's away goal gave FK Teplice a slender advantage in their UEFA Cup second qualifying round first-leg match against FC MTZ-RIPO Minsk, although Artyom Kontsevoi earned the Belarussian side a draw on the night.
Notable absentees
Both teams were without a number of key players for the match in Minsk, with the home side missing ineligible pair Oleg Strakhanovich and Dmitri Abazin while injury deprived the Czech visitors of Josef Kaufman and Dušan Tesarík. MTZ-RIPO did receive an unexpected boost as Armenian midfield player Hamlet Mkhitaryan started after his proposed transfer to Heart of Midlothian FC was delayed.
Poštulka excellence
However, the experienced campaigner could not help his team-mates find a way through in a slow and cautious opening, as experienced goalkeeper Tomáš Poštulka and central defender Karel Rada kept the home side's attackers at bay. MTZ-RIPO looked vulnerable at the back, Pavel Verbír posing endless problems on the left wing and threatening Aleksandr Sulima's goal on a few occasions, but when Teplice did make the breakthrough, the goal originated on the opposite flank. Jirí Sabou's deep cross was met by Michal Dolezal, whose header found the on-rushing Rilke to blast the ball into the net.
Kontsevoi leveller
MTZ-RIPO coach Yuri Puntus introduced a third forward, Gia Todua, at half-time, to join up with Kontsevoi and Vyacheslav Hleb. Poštulka still held firm, however, marshalling his defence superbly as the home side desperately sought a way back into the match. An equaliser did finally arrive with 20 minutes left, as Mikhail Afanasiev sent a cross in from the right touchline and Kontsevoi out-jumped Vlastimil Ryška to head MTZ-RIPO level.
Away goal required
The home side tried to build on this success, but Teplice defended solidly and never looked vulnerable again. Now the Belarus outfit have to score away from home in the second leg on 25 August to have any chance of progressing to the first round proper. notas_de_prensa_archivo
