LIVERPOOL FC: RAFA HOPING TO CURE EURO HANGOVER
/noticias.info/ Rafael Benitez is hoping his decision to keep his players in Bulgaria for an extra night this week will pay dividends at the Riverside Stadium this weekend.
While Middlesbrough have had a full week to prepare for the season opener, Liverpool have flown to Bulgaria and back to contest the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
The Reds usually fly back from European trips straight after the game, but Benitez this week opted to give his squad a proper night's sleep on Wednesday night before making the three and a half hour flight back to Liverpool on Thursday afternoon.
The Reds have a notoriously bad record in league games following European away trips - they've only won two of their last twelve - and Benitez is hoping that statistic can be improved at Middlesbrough this weekend.
Benitez said: "It is not the best situation to come back and play a league game within two days. We will have to use all the squad if it is possible.
"We have tried something different. We stayed for one more night in Sofia rather than flying straight back to Liverpool after the game.
"Maybe it will give the players more time to relax and to recuperate from the match. We will see, only after the Middlesbrough game will we know whether it was a successful idea." notas_de_prensa_archivo
