EVERTON: SHARP'S PREMIER LOWDOWN
/noticias.info/ Graeme Sharp gives his lowdown on how he thinks the weekend's Premiership fixtures will go:
Arsenal v Newcastle
This is a big season for Newcastle, with the spotlight already firmly on the Magpies. So travelling to Highbury on the opening day is far from the best place to start. I expect Arsenal to win.
First scorer: Freddie Ljungberg
Aston Villa v Bolton
Bolton will not do as well this season as last, but they have still managed to add new faces to the squad. They will be relying on their new signing from Mexico to make an impression with goals. I think this game will be a high-scoring draw.
First scorer: Juan Pablo Angel
Everton v Manchester United
It is a tough start to the new season for David Moyes and his men but if they produce a repeat of the performance they mustered against Villarreal this could be another upset, although a draw is the most likely outcome.
First scorer: Wayne Rooney
Fulham v Birmingham
Not exactly the kind of fixture to get the pulse racing, but it could produce goals. Fulham have lost a very accomplished goalkeeper but have kept hold of Luis Boa Morte, who is very important for them. He could be the difference.
First scorer: Luis Boa Morte
Manchester City v West Bromwich Albion
I watched the corresponding fixture last season and how West Brom left with all three points is beyond me. I expect City to make amends this time around.
First scorer: Andy Cole
Middlesbrough v Liverpool
Middlesbrough have always done well against Liverpool at the Riverside but the first game of the season always throws up some interesting results. Here, I will go for the draw.
First scorer: Fernando Morientes
Portsmouth v Tottenham
Tottenham are my dark horses to do well this season, Portsmouth my not so dark horses for the drop. As a result, I expect it to be a relatively convincing away win.
First scorer: Jermaine Defoe
Sunderland v Charlton
Alan Curbishley has put together a good footballing team but he has been blighted by injuries this week. That fact, coupled with the optimism of Sunderland's return to the top flight could provide a home win for Mick McCarthy's men.
First scorer: Julio Arca
West Ham v Blackburn
It is a tough awayday for Blackburn, but Mark Hughes has put together a tough squad. I expect them to go to London and get a draw.
First scorer: Craig Bellamy
Wigan v Chelsea
Everybody would love to see Wigan cause an upset and get a result. Unfortunately, I just can't see it. The Jose Mourinho bandwagon will continue rolling on.
First scorer: Frank Lampard notas_de_prensa_archivo
