EVERTON FC: NEVILLE GIVEN NOD
/noticias.info/ Everton’s newest signing Phil Neville has been included in Sven Goran Eriksson’s latest England squad.
The Swede, who was at Goodison to watch the Blues 0-2 defeat against Manchester United, named his squad for next week’s friendly with Denmark on Saturday evening.
It had been suggested that Neville, the fourth highest capped player in the squad, may have been overlooked, having not had regular first team football during the latter stages of his Old Trafford career.
But Eriksson obviously supports his recent switch to Merseyside as the 28-year-old is almost certainly guaranteed a regular place in David Moyes’ team.
Neville last travelled with England on their tour of America at the end of last season as Eriksson gave opportunities to previously untested players at international level.
For next week’s game against Denmark in Copenhagen some of those players that were involved have been omitted as Eriksson looks to start finalising his plans for the World Cup next summer.
Before that though there are important qualifiers against Wales and Northern Ireland – games that will undoubtedly play a major part in deciding who will be on the plane to Germany.
"We have a very big couple of months ahead of us and we have an important job to do to qualify for the World Cup finals," the England coach said.
"This match against Denmark is the perfect preparation and I'm very much looking forward to the start of what I hope is going to be a very significant season for the England team."
The game in Denmark next week unfortunately will not see Neville up against his team-mate Per Kroldrup as he is currently sidelined with a groin injury.
