EVERTON FC: BENT FEELING SHARP
/noticias.info/ Marcus Bent is feeling sharp and full of goals after overcoming an Achilles injury to play for more than an hour in Saturday’s opening Premiership game against Manchester United.
The 27-year-old striker came on as a substitute for the injured James Beattie midway through the opening half of Saturday’s Goodison encounter.
He struck the crossbar with a first-half effort and looked impressive during his hour-long run-out.
Now he is hoping to build on that display to provide the goals for Everton as the Blues seek to build on last season’s fourth place finish.
Like the rest of the team, Bent was hugely disappointed by the 2-0 reverse to Manchester United. But he remains positive for the season ahead.
He told evertonfc.com: "Last year we were thumped by Arsenal but this year in the first game we did well against a quality side like Manchester United. The result was a frustrating one but there were promising signs.
"But this year we have got to be a bit more clinical. We started really well, Beats got injured and I came on. I felt I contributed quite well throughout the game.
"I felt sharp. There is still a little bit of fitness to work on but I thought it was quite promising. I want to build on that performance.
"I felt good because I have been injured for a few weeks with an Achilles problem. It is still sore a little bit so for me to come in and play a lot of the game was good.”
Bent was unlucky not to score the opening goal of the game. He had a well-struck volley from 12 yards deflected on to the crossbar inadvertently by Mikael Silvestre.
Had that effort found the target it could have been a different outcome.
"When I hit it it looked like it was going for the top corner but it hit Silvestre and went on to the bar.
"Then we were undone either side of half-time.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
