EVERTON FC: ROON'S SYMPATHY FOR JOE

/noticias.info/ Wayne Rooney has conceded that the mistake made by Joseph Yobo during Saturday's 0-2 defeat to Manchester United was completely out of character.

The catastrophic error at the start of the second-half teed up the teenager for his first goal against Everton since his departure less than 12 months ago.

But Rooney quickly leapt to the defence of his former team-mate insisting that type of mistake is rare from a player of Yobo’s calibre.

He said: “It was a lucky goal in a way because I have played with Joseph and he is a great defender – you certainly don’t expect that from him.

“I was just trying to close down David Weir and the ball fell nicely for me.”

Rooney was also philosophical about the vociferous reception he received from the home crowd on his third visit back to Goodison since joining United.

He continued: “The fans gave me a bit of stick but that is part and parcel of the job.
