FORMULA 1 - RENAULT: Magic Moments: Week of 15 August

/noticias.info/ History has seen relatively few races between 15 and 21 August – but there are still some Renault successes to celebrate!


15 August 1981, in Austria, René Arnoux and Alain Prost took an all-Renault front row in their turbo-powered machines – at an average of 232 kph! Eleven years later in Hungary, Riccardo Patrese and Nigel Mansell repeated the feat, in their Williams-Renaults. On 15 August 1993, finally, Damon Hill won the Hungarian GP in his Williams – after starting second behind team-mate Alain Prost. The latter set the fastest race lap, while Martin Brundle took his Ligier-Renault to 5th place.

16 August 1980, René Arnoux and Jean-Pierre Jabouille took the top two spots on the grid for the Austrian GP in their turbo Renaults. The following year, Arnoux finished the same race in second place. On 16 August 1992, Nigel Mansell finished second in Hungary, set fastest lap and won Renault’s first ever world title. In the 1998 Hungarian GP, Jacques Villeneuve took his Williams-Mécachrome to third place with team-mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen finishing 5th. Their engine was a development of the 1997 championship-winning engine.

17 August 1980, Jean-Pierre Jabouille took the win in Austria. René Arnoux set fastest lap.

18 August 1985, Ayrton Senna finished the Austrian GP in 2nd position. He was driving a Lotus-Renault turbo. notas_de_prensa_archivo
